Kirt Sampson Named CEO

Equinox Village continues to strengthen local decision making and ownership just as many other senior living communities are being bought by larger and larger corporations.  As an example, on July 10, the Addison Independent reported that the Lodge at Otter Creek in Middlebury and the Lodge at Shelburne Bay in Shelburne are being sold to Norwood, MA LCB Senior Living LLC.

Equinox Village’s owners John Russell and Dr. Jim Russell are proud to announce that Equinox Village’s Executive Director Kirt Sampson has been appointed Chief Executive Officer, as well as part owner.

“When we hired Kirt, what impressed us most was his successful career in senior living and care services, and also his deep compassion and commitment. Residents and their families can be assured that Kirt and the Equinox Village staff will care for them just as Jim and I would have wanted our parents to be cared for,” said John Russell.

Since being hired in 2009 and relocating to this area, Mr. Sampson has had increasing on-site decision-making, because local on-site owners and managers understand local and resident needs. Since Equinox Village is family owned, the Russell Family was able to make Mr. Sampson a partner in the business as well.

Sampson has had a long career in senior living and care services since 1979.  He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from Franklin Pierce College, and a Master of Science degree in Health Care Administration from the University of Colorado.  In addition, he is President of the Vermont Health Care Association, was past president from 2008 – 2009, and serves on the Vermont Health Care Association’s Independent Informal Dispute Resolution Panel.

Among his colleagues and staff members, Sampson is best known for his sincerity, his openness to suggestions, and his unyielding commitment to the highest standards of quality for the residents of senior communities.

Equinox Village was founded in 2006 by brothers Dr. Jim Russell and John Russell. It is a vibrant independent and supportive living community situated on eleven beautiful Manchester Center acres in the heart of the Green Mountains’ rich cultural and recreational opportunities.
